Abigail Grace turns 8

She made her own cake!
Today my baby girl turns 8. She was born around 3:30 in the morning on May 29, 2000. She weighed 8 pounds 5 ounces. She was so precious. She had the prettiest red hair and blue eyes(she still does). The night she was born was the first time Dave ever changed a diaper. He stayed up most of the night with her. I had so much fun dressing her in her pretty little dresses and cute outfits everyday. She was my real life baby doll. I would dress her and pose her for pictures almost everyday. I would read to her and rock her and sing to her. She always sucked her two fingers and held Dave's ear. Everything she did was so cute. Now she is our big 8 year old. Happy Birthday Abby Grace. We love you!

A Trip to the Zoo

We took a field trip to the zoo with our school group last week. It was kinda cool outside and had rained the night before. The animals were all out and about, running and playing. We have never been on a day when we got to see them so up close and personal. It was a fun trip. Maybe the kids learned a little something too. Look how close they were to the tiger!
( quiet and still for just one minute)

Burn the Ships

Today I have been so amazed at how God has worked out everything so perfect for us. We could not have orchestrated this in a million years. I'm talking about the move to Grace Fellowship and the new job at Donaho. I started thinking today about the first steps we took in this process. This is the song that came to mind.....
Burn the Ships
by Steven Curtis Chapman
In the spring of 1519, a Spanish fleet set sail
Cortez told his sailors this mission must not fail
On the eastern shore of Mexico they landed with great dreams,
But the hardships of the new world make them restless and weak.
Quietly they whispered, "Let's sail back to the life we knew"
But the one who led them there was saying
CHORUS
Burn the ships, we're here to stay.
There's no way we could go back
Now that we've come this far by faith
Burn the ships, we've passed the point of no return
Our life is here
So let the ships burn
In the spring of new beginnings a searching heart set sail
Looking for a new life and a love that would not fail
On the shores of grace and mercy we landed with great joy
But an enemy was waiting to steal, kill, and destroy
Quietly he whispers, "Go back to the life you know"
But the one who led us here is saying
BRIDGE
Nobody said it would be easy
But the one who brought us here
Is never gonna leave us alone

Dave's Other New Job

Dave is now the new band director at Donaho School. He signed his contract this morning and is meeting the students today. We are very excited. He will still be working at the church. His classes will be in the afternoon at the school. It is really amazing how God has worked all this out. More on that later!!! Congratulations Dave.

Open House

We had our homeschool open school last night. The kids all did such a great job. I love having this at the end of each semester because it encourages me to work harder the next semester. Abby quoted Psalm 8, Erin quoted Psalm 1 and Samuel quoted Micah 6:8. They also sang Fifty Nifty United States. The choir sang three song that were so cute. Each child in the group did such a great job. Now we are looking forward to a little time off. We are planning to have school some during the summer. But for this week, school is out OUT!

Strawberry Fields Forever

You know the Beatles song, " Strawberry Fields Forever"? That is the song I have been singing all day. We went with some friends to pick strawberries today. They were the best I've ever tasted! All the kids had buckets and worked hard to pick as many as they could. My best description of the kids would be "eat all you can, save the rest".They had red faces and clothes when we left....some more than others:) One of the hardest workers was Dave....he picked as many as the kids.

Early to Bed

I am sitting at my computer where I have been for about an hour and a 45 minutes. That's also how long my children have been in the bed. Since 7:00......I have never put them to bed that early before. But tonight that's all I knew to do. Dave was at Music rehearsal at the church and I was cooking supper. The kids had just had a bath and the night was off to a good start. Everyone was getting their plates and they were going to sit outside in their swing by the trampoline. This was fine with me...so then Erin came in with scissors in hand, I don't really remember what she said, But this is when I found out they had just cut the net off the trampoline. Why does this upset me so much? I think it has to do with their disregard for property(theirs or anyone elses) From what I can tell..... Samuel got the scissors, he and Erin actually did the cutting, but Abby just let them do it. I didn't yell I just told them to finish eating and I sent them to bed. I guess I did not really know what the punishment should be. When things like this happen, I feel like a failure as a parent. I want to know what am I not teaching them. Why would they do that? It may not be so big tomorrow, but right now its huge.

Good night.

Sunday Night and the Week Ahead

Today was a good day. Our pastor is preaching through Titus and we finished chapter 1 today. It has been so good. After church we had lunch with some friends and then had a nice Sunday nap. Aren't those the best naps. Later in the afternoon we took a walk while the kids rode bikes. It was a nice day. Now I am thinking about the week ahead. We have lots to do in preparation for Open House with our school group. One of our goals this week is to complete our Geography project. We have studied the 50 states and their capitals. I have really been trying to think of a good way for the kids to present this other than just with their notebooks. We also have end of the school year stuff to do. I'm so excited its almost summer!!! Although we are going to do some schooling this summer it won't be everyday.

Abby and I planted a garden on Saturday. We planted tomatoes, squash, banana peppers, watermelons and pumpkins. Hopefully Charlie the dog will stay out of it. The last time I planted a garden I did so in the front flower bed (tomatoes and squash). Dave made fun of me for doing that. So this year it is in the back yard. I hope it does as well back there as it did in the front. I am hoping for this to be a learning experience for the kids. We will call it Summer Science.

Finding treasures

Today the kiddos and I spent the day with my mama and all three of my sisters. We don't get to do that often so it was nice. The noise level was too high at times ( we all seem to talk at the same time plus there were six children.) Monday Samuel decided he needed his own desk for school so he called Grandaddy and asked him to build him a desk. He told Samuel to find one and he would buy it for him. So we went in search for a desk. I love finding treasures at the thrift store and Tuesday we found three. We found a desk, plus this great floor lamp and a porcelain doll. The lamp will be just perfect with new wiring( my Daddy will do this) a little paint and a new globe and shade. For only $5 I think it was a great find! The doll was $4 and Erin thinks it is worth a million dollars. She loves baby dolls. The desk was an old school desk that just needed a little paint. Now all three kids have their very own desk. All those treasures for $19.46.
