Early to Bed

I am sitting at my computer where I have been for about an hour and a 45 minutes. That's also how long my children have been in the bed. Since 7:00......I have never put them to bed that early before. But tonight that's all I knew to do. Dave was at Music rehearsal at the church and I was cooking supper. The kids had just had a bath and the night was off to a good start. Everyone was getting their plates and they were going to sit outside in their swing by the trampoline. This was fine with me...so then Erin came in with scissors in hand, I don't really remember what she said, But this is when I found out they had just cut the net off the trampoline. Why does this upset me so much? I think it has to do with their disregard for property(theirs or anyone elses) From what I can tell..... Samuel got the scissors, he and Erin actually did the cutting, but Abby just let them do it. I didn't yell I just told them to finish eating and I sent them to bed. I guess I did not really know what the punishment should be. When things like this happen, I feel like a failure as a parent. I want to know what am I not teaching them. Why would they do that? It may not be so big tomorrow, but right now its huge.

Good night.

Sunday Night and the Week Ahead

Today was a good day. Our pastor is preaching through Titus and we finished chapter 1 today. It has been so good. After church we had lunch with some friends and then had a nice Sunday nap. Aren't those the best naps. Later in the afternoon we took a walk while the kids rode bikes. It was a nice day. Now I am thinking about the week ahead. We have lots to do in preparation for Open House with our school group. One of our goals this week is to complete our Geography project. We have studied the 50 states and their capitals. I have really been trying to think of a good way for the kids to present this other than just with their notebooks. We also have end of the school year stuff to do. I'm so excited its almost summer!!! Although we are going to do some schooling this summer it won't be everyday.

Abby and I planted a garden on Saturday. We planted tomatoes, squash, banana peppers, watermelons and pumpkins. Hopefully Charlie the dog will stay out of it. The last time I planted a garden I did so in the front flower bed (tomatoes and squash). Dave made fun of me for doing that. So this year it is in the back yard. I hope it does as well back there as it did in the front. I am hoping for this to be a learning experience for the kids. We will call it Summer Science.

Finding treasures

Today the kiddos and I spent the day with my mama and all three of my sisters. We don't get to do that often so it was nice. The noise level was too high at times ( we all seem to talk at the same time plus there were six children.) Monday Samuel decided he needed his own desk for school so he called Grandaddy and asked him to build him a desk. He told Samuel to find one and he would buy it for him. So we went in search for a desk. I love finding treasures at the thrift store and Tuesday we found three. We found a desk, plus this great floor lamp and a porcelain doll. The lamp will be just perfect with new wiring( my Daddy will do this) a little paint and a new globe and shade. For only $5 I think it was a great find! The doll was $4 and Erin thinks it is worth a million dollars. She loves baby dolls. The desk was an old school desk that just needed a little paint. Now all three kids have their very own desk. All those treasures for $19.46.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed to see that Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) had posed for a racy picture in Vanity Fair Magazine. My girls love to watch the show and I have always thought it was a pretty good show. I am mostly sad because the says she is a Christian which Abby thinks is so cool. I guess this is just another teachable moment with my kids. You can't put anybody on a pedestal, because people will let you down. I do hope this is an isolated instance and she will not continue down that path. I also hope her parents will take more responsibility for her. She is only fifteen.

Thoughts on a Monday

This is the last week for our Spring Home Bible Fellowship. We have done the Tim Keller study "Gospel Christianity". It has been good and I have learned alot. This past week we really dug into why we believe the Bible. One of the biggest things I realized is how I knew the Bible stories I learned as a child and even as an adult but how sometimes I miss the Story of the Bible. You know the thread (Jesus) that runs from Genesis to Revelation. Those are not isolated incidents: Noah, Daniel in the lions den, Moses etc. You see Jesus in it all! I have realized lately how to have to see God in every situation. Yesterday I cooked this huge ham that my friend Sue gave me for Easter. Thank you Sue for thinking about our needs and being such a good example to us of giving. Today we went to Chuckie Cheese in Birmingham with our Girl Scout Troop. This is what they chose to do with their cookie money. We went I 59 instead if I 20 to avoid Talladega race traffic. So it seemed to take forever to get there. Samuel had 2 meltdowns on the way. One because he was "starving to death" and the other meltdown came when he had to go to the bathroom. We finally made it there and they had a great time playing.

Late night ramblings

I really need to go to bed, but I need to ask this question first. What do we need to do about a dog that chews everything up? This has become a really big problem. He has chewed 2 of Dave's shoes and countless numbers of the kids shoes. He chews on baby dolls, action figures, clothes, dishes........you get the idea. EVERYTHING is in danger of being chewed up by Charlie. We really love this dog but he is eating everything. So is it too late to train him? If you have any answers I would appreciate your input. Thanks and good night!
