Worldview

Have you ever thought about what type of worldview you have. How do we develop a worldview? Do you have a biblical worldview? I started looking at this after I read the book Family Driven Faith. Your worldview is how you view life. We develop our worldview from our our education, our parents, our culture and our surroundings. The movies we watch, music we listen to, books we read all contribute to our view of the world. "Worldview" is a term used to describe the belief system by which a person understands or makes decisions about the world. One of the most prominent modern-day worldviews is postmodernism -- a belief system that rejects the notion of absolute truth. This is often expressed in the statement, "That may be true for you but it's not true for me."(Baptist Press) So how do I make sure I have a biblical worldview? How do I show my children the importance of having a biblical worldview? I guess the obvious beginning is through Bible study. We need to see what the Bible say about........everything?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says "All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

So that leaves us with alot of studying, right? I guess so. I'm going to continue to dig. If all those different things I listed above contribute to my worldview, then I really need to be more aware of what I'm taking in. I hope this was not incoherent ramblings to all of you great Biblical scholars who read my blog. :) Remember these are just the ramblings of a SAHM seeking to teach my children well. If you have anything to add, I would love to hear it.

All in a Days Work

Dave and I Spent most of the day on Thursday painting the eaves of his Moms house. I managed to be covered in paint by the time we were done. Dave hardly had a drop on him. We have more work to do today but the hard part is behind us. (thank you Abby for your great photography:) We also went to Jasper to check on the house that Dave's grandmother lived in. She died on Sept. 7, 1999. We had been married 1 year. We got the call that she was very sick and we needed to come to see her. We went and were there with her until she died. It was a good time for Dave, his mom and his siblings to get to spend with her and with each other. They reminisced over times spent in that big old house. It was kinda scary at night in that house.....and that is not just my opinion, Dave and Carolyn thought so too. I was sick throughout the days we were there. Little did I know but I was pregnant with Abby. It was good to be able to take Abby Erin and Samuel to see where their great-grandmother, Ollie Rebbecca Tucker lived.

Long Time No Blog

I have sat down at my computer several times over the last week to blog, I would type a line and then just quit. (this post is for Alicia) Erin, Samuel and I were all sick last week but we feel better now. I have a lingering summer cold. Mainly a cough that manages to keep me up at night. (and Dave.....sorry!) Don't you sometimes feel depressed when you get sick? I do.

Summer is speeding by and school is quickly approaching. I'm excited about the new year. I have already ordered some of our books and hope to decide on the rest in the next couple of weeks. Its fun to pick out books and decide what we will use for each grade and subject. I love to make out schedules and lesson plans and really plan out goals that are way beyond our reach!!! I especially like getting the school room ready. Getting all the new school supplies....pencils, new glue, tablets, unbroken crayons.....(Aimee, I know you are thinking what a nerd I am:) Samo will be an official kindergartner this year. I can hardly believe I will have a 2nd grader and a 3rd grader. Dave will begin his other job Aug. 4th. We are so thankful that God provided such a good job. His schedule will be mornings at the church and afternoons teaching band.

Its late.......I'll write more exciting things later:)

monday morning bright and early

I feel like I'm am so far behind on my blogging. The kids and I have spent the last few days at my parents while Dave visits the college students at beach project. Erin has been sick for several days and now Samuel and I have got something. Samuel is running fever and very congested, he says he feels like there is a nail in his throat.(isn't that sad!) I think I have a sinus infection. So we may travel to the doctor later today.

I went to the Deeper Still women's conference in Atlanta last weekend . The speakers were Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer and Kay Arthur. It was very good. All three ladies did a great job and really did encourage us to go "deeper" in our personal study. I had never seen Kay Arthur before and I really like her. I would like to do one of her studies. I went with several ladies from our church and we had a good time.

Well Samuel is in need of some breakfast. He is telling me he is starving. So I'll write more later.

Life's Work

I have been reading a book by Elisabeth Elliott called The Shaping of a Christian Family. This is an exert from one of the chapters....

There is no nobler career than that of motherhood at its best. There are no possibilities greater, and in no other sphere does failure bring more serious penalties. With what diligence then should she prepare herself for such a task. If the mechanic who is to work with "things" must study at technical school, if the doctor into whose skilled hands will be entrusted human lives, must go through medical school...how much more should the mother who is fashioning the souls of the men and women of tomorrow, learn at the highest of all schools and from the Master-Sculptor Himself, God. To attempt this task, unprepared is tragic, and its results affect generations to come. On the other hand there is no higher height to which humanity can attain than that occupied by a converted, heaven-inspired, praying mother. (anonymous writer)

So as a mother shouldn't we look at "mothering" as our Life's work. No matter if we stay at home with them, homeschool or work another job outside of our homes, our life's work is our children. Titus teaches us that older women have the responsibility to teach the younger women to love their children. So the task is always there for us, we never grow too old for this "life's work".

Mardi Gras or Birthday?

Well we have finally wrapped up the month of celebrating Abby and Erin's birthday. It seems like every time we turned around there was another party. This is what we did....on May 29 (Abby's) we went to mamaw's swimming, on May 31st we had a party with family at mamaw's, on June 20th (Erin's) swimming at mamaw's with friends, and on June 25th we had a friend party at the mall with a movie, lunch and cake at the food court. So Mardi Gras is over for this year. WOO HOO! They had a fun month. Today was a great party...We saw Charlotte's Web and then had a fun time at the mall. The girls got lots of great presents and to top it off they got to go to Claire's. For those of you who don't know, that is the GIRLIE GIRL store in the mall. They could spend hours in there. Hope you enjoy the pictures from our day.

My Latest Obsession

EBay. I have gotten addicted to eBay. It began with me trying to sell some of my textbooks that we will no longer need. Then I started looking at books online and then tennis rackets, bicycles....you get the picture. But the good new is I have gotten some of the books we will need for next year at really good prices. As Dave walked out the door a minute ago he reminded me to talk to him him before I start bidding. I guess he thinks I might get really crazy with ordering stuff..

Erin had a great birthday. She got to spend it with some of her friends at Mamaw's pool. She swam and played all day. Don't they look like they are having fun!
